1. Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Karthik Balakrishnan, an individual developer based in India, who operates the GoTripping app and gotripping.app ("GoTripping", "we", "us"). Wherever these terms say "GoTripping", "we", "us" or "our", they mean him, operating the service. GoTripping is not a company, and there is no other legal entity behind it.
By creating an account, joining a trip, or otherwise using the GoTripping app or gotripping.app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
2. Who can use GoTripping
You must be at least 18 years old to hold a GoTripping account, and you must have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement.
Children can appear on a trip as travellers so the split is fair, but they cannot hold accounts, sign in, or be invited. Section 9 sets out your responsibilities when you add them.
GoTripping is offered in India and the United States. You're responsible for complying with the laws that apply where you are.
3. Your account
You sign in with your mobile number and a one-time code. Keep access to that number secure — anyone who can receive your codes can reach your account and everything in it, including your trips and Vault.
You're responsible for everything done through your account. Tell us promptly at plan@gotripping.app if you think someone else has got into it, or if you lose the number.
One account per person. Don't create an account for someone else without their permission, and don't impersonate anyone.
4. What GoTripping does
GoTripping gives a travelling group a shared place to:
- build a day-by-day itinerary anyone on the trip can add to, with attendance tracked per activity;
- keep a reusable roster of the people you travel with ("My People"), each saved with a share weight;
- log shared expenses and split them by weight — adults at a full share, children and elders at a lower share, or any custom percentage — rather than dividing evenly by headcount;
- settle a whole family or party as a single unit against the rest of the trip;
- work out the smallest set of payments that clears every balance;
- store trip documents in an encrypted shared Vault.
The weights, splits and balances GoTripping produces reflect the settings your group chose. They are a convenience, not an audited account. Check them before anyone pays anything.
5. What GoTripping is not
GoTripping does not hold, receive, transmit, escrow or disburse money.
When your group settles up, GoTripping calculates each person's share and shows the amounts to be settled. GoTripping does not collect payment handles or generate payment links. You settle up using your own external or third-party payment apps, and you authorise any payment directly with that provider.
We are not a bank, a payment system operator, a payment aggregator, a payment gateway, a money transmitter, an escrow agent, a financial adviser, an accountant, or a travel agent. We never take custody of your funds and we never see your PIN, card details or payment-app credentials.
Whether a payment actually happens is entirely between you, the other traveller, and your payment provider. If someone on your trip doesn't pay what the ledger says they owe, that's a matter between the two of you. GoTripping records the agreement; it does not enforce it, guarantee it, or compensate for it.
Balances in GoTripping are a shared record of what your group has agreed among themselves. They are not a statement of account from a financial institution, and they don't create any legal debt between you and us.
GoTripping is also not the seller of anything you book for your trip. Flights, hotels, tickets and activities are bought from whoever you buy them from, under their terms.
6. Free trips and Trip Pass
What's free, always
Logging expenses and reading the full ledger and balances is free on every trip, whatever its size. We don't put the numbers behind a paywall.
Free tier limits
| Limit | Free tier |
|---|---|
| Travellers on the trip | Up to 3 |
| Trip length | Up to 7 days |
| Shared storage | Starter allowance |
These three limits apply independently. Crossing any one of them — adding a fourth traveller, running longer than seven days, or exceeding the storage allowance — means the trip needs a Trip Pass.
Trip Pass
A Trip Pass is a one-time purchase for a single trip. It is not a subscription and does not renew automatically. Each Trip Pass keeps that trip active for up to 4 weeks, and then gives you a further 4 weeks to settle up, 8 weeks in total. If the trip runs longer than 4 weeks, you buy another Trip Pass for the same trip to keep it active. For example, a two-month trip needs two Trip Passes for the trip itself, followed by a 4-week settlement period.
| Region | Price | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| India | ₹799 per Trip Pass | That trip for up to 4 weeks plus 4 weeks to settle up, for every traveller on it |
| United States | $9.99 per Trip Pass | That trip for up to 4 weeks plus 4 weeks to settle up, for every traveller on it |
One person buys it; the whole group gets it. A Trip Pass removes all three free-tier limits for that trip and unlocks the Settle Up flow, private per-family Vault folders, and the larger storage allowance — for everyone on the trip, not just the buyer.
A Trip Pass applies only to the trip it was bought for. It does not carry over to another trip, and it is not transferable between trips or accounts. Additional Trip Passes bought to extend a long trip apply to that same trip only.
If your group wants to share the cost, the Pass can be added to the trip's own ledger and split like any other expense. That's a record inside the app — the actual money still moves through your own payment apps, as section 5 explains.
7. Payment, refunds and changes
Trip Passes are sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Those stores process the payment, handle the billing relationship, and apply their own terms. We receive confirmation that a purchase succeeded and which trip it belongs to — not your card details.
Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, under Apple's or Google's refund policies. We can't issue a refund directly for a store purchase. If something in the app has genuinely gone wrong, write to plan@gotripping.app and we'll do what we can to help, including supporting your refund request with the store.
Prices shown are inclusive of applicable taxes where the store collects them. We may change Trip Pass pricing at any time; a change never affects a Pass you've already bought.
8. Your content
Everything you put into GoTripping — trip names, activities, expenses, receipts, documents — stays yours. We don't claim ownership of it.
To run the service, you give us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transmit and display your content, solely for the purpose of operating GoTripping for you and the people on your trips. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to the retention periods in our Privacy Policy.
You confirm you have the right to upload whatever you upload, and that doing so doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
A trip is shared. Anything you add to a trip is visible to everyone on that trip, and stays part of that trip's record even if you later leave or delete your account. Don't add anything to a shared trip that you wouldn't want the whole group to see.
9. People you add to a trip
When you add someone to your roster or to a trip, you're providing us with their personal data. You confirm that you have the right to do so.
If you add a child, you confirm that you are that child's parent or lawful guardian, or that you have a parent or guardian's permission. This matters: it's how we meet the verifiable parental consent requirement under India's DPDP Act, 2023, and comparable US requirements for children's data.
Assigning someone a share weight — Adult, Child, Elder or custom — is a splitting setting your group has agreed among yourselves. It has no meaning outside your trip, and we draw no inference from it.
If someone asks us to remove data about them that you entered, we'll act on that request, which may change what your trip shows.
10. The Vault
Vault attachments are encrypted on your device before upload, with per-folder keys. We store the encrypted file; we cannot read what's inside it.
That protection has a consequence: if you lose access to your keys and the recovery path, we cannot recover your documents. Nobody, including the person who operates GoTripping, can decrypt them for you. Keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose — passports, tickets, insurance papers.
The Vault is a convenience for the life of a trip, not a permanent archive or a backup service. Documents stay available for as long as the trip exists.
Don't store anything in the Vault that you're not legally permitted to store or share with your group.
11. Acceptable use
Don't use GoTripping to:
- break the law, or help anyone else break it;
- harass, threaten, defraud or impersonate anyone, on a trip or otherwise;
- upload malware, or anything you don't have the right to upload;
- launder money, disguise the source of funds, or create fake expense records for any improper purpose;
- scrape, reverse-engineer, decompile or resell the service, or attempt to bypass Trip Pass gating or any other technical limit;
- put unreasonable load on our systems, or interfere with anyone else's use of them.
We can suspend or close an account that does any of these, and we'll tell you why where we're able to.
Our Content Policy is part of these terms. It sets out what you can't share on a trip, in chat, in the Vault or anywhere else, and how to report it.
12. Third-party services
GoTripping relies on or points you to services we don't control: the UPI apps and PSPs in India, and Venmo, Cash App and PayPal in the United States, where you settle up yourselves; your device's calendar and file apps; the App Store and Google Play; and mapping services.
Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, and your use of them is between you and them. We're not responsible for what they do, whether they're available, or whether a payment you make through them succeeds.
13. Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep GoTripping running and working, but we don't promise uninterrupted or error-free service. We may need to take it down for maintenance, and things occasionally break.
GoTripping is an actively developing product. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you rely on, or make a change that materially reduces what you've paid for on an active Trip Pass, we'll tell you in the app or by message first.
We may update these terms. Material changes get notice in the app or by message before they take effect. Continuing to use GoTripping after that means you accept the updated terms; if you don't, you can stop using the service and close your account.
14. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, GoTripping is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
In particular, we don't warrant that the splits, balances, receipt scans, duplicate detection or settle-up calculations are free of error. They're a tool to help your group agree. Check the numbers before anyone pays.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, GoTripping and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or missed travel — whether or not we knew such loss was possible.
We are specifically not liable for: money one traveller doesn't pay another; a payment made to the wrong person or in the wrong amount through a third-party payment app; a booking you miss; or documents lost because Vault keys and the recovery path were both lost.
Where liability can't be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the total amount you paid us for Trip Passes in the twelve months before the claim arose.
16. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Karthik Balakrishnan, as the operator of GoTripping, from claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from your misuse of the service, your breach of these terms, content you upload, or data you entered about another person without the right to do so.
17. Ending this agreement
You can stop using GoTripping and delete your account at any time — in the app, by going to Profile > Settings. Deleting your account doesn't refund an unused Trip Pass, and doesn't remove a shared trip that other travellers are still using.
When you delete your account, we hold it for 30 days first. During that time you're signed out, and you can sign in again and choose Keep my account to have everything back as you left it. After that we delete your phone number, recovery email, photo and sign-in for good. Your name stays on the trips you were on, so your co-travellers' records still add up, and anything you owe stays owed. If you sign up again later, it starts as a new account, not linked to your past trips.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms, if we're legally required to, or if we discontinue the service. If we discontinue GoTripping entirely, we'll give reasonable notice and a way to export your trips and Vault documents first.
Sections 5, 8, 14, 15, 16, 18 and 19 survive the end of this agreement.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to the paragraph below, the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka have exclusive jurisdiction.
If you're in the United States: nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under the consumer-protection law of your state that cannot be waived by agreement, including the right to bring a claim in small-claims court where that's available to you.
Before starting any formal proceeding, please write to us at plan@gotripping.app. Most things get sorted faster that way, and we'd rather fix it than argue about it.
19. General
Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about GoTripping.
Severability. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still stands.
No waiver. If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.
Assignment. You can't transfer this agreement. We may transfer it to a person or company that takes over GoTripping from its operator, on notice to you.
Force majeure. Neither of us is liable for failures caused by events genuinely outside our control.
